Pete Does The London Astoria
December 12, 1998

In a bold change of stage presentation, Dead or Alive played the London Astoria on Saturday, 12 December, 1998. Pete appeared onstage with no other band members, with music provided by backing tapes. Also on stage were a DJ with record deck, who proceeded to smash records and throw the pieces into the audience, and a belly dancer.

The set began with the new DOA cover of Madonna's "Why Is It So Hard," followed by the Prince song, "Pop Life." These were followed by two DOA originals, "Brand New Lover" and "Lover Come Back To Me." The show concluded with a cover of U2's "Even Better Than the Real Thing", followed by "You Spin Me Round." The mood of the show was very aggressive, with Pete dancing feverishly, his hair festooned with a multitude of tied-on decorations. There was a notable absence of any material from the Nukleopatra album.

Pat Geary spoke to Pete at length by telephone on the day of the show, and reported him in good spirits and looking forward to the Astoria show, as well as a full calendar of DOA activity in the new year.
