Well,
here is the picture I am most proud of. Me and Nancy
Sinatra. More than any other record, any other pop star, These
Boots Are Made For Walking, and Nancy, rocked my world, when I
was a little, strange, boy. I did not know what she meant, what
the record was saying, but the first time I heard it coming out
of the radio, I felt it was a command, from outer space, to dash
for my mothers overflowing shoe cupboard and jump into her pink,
patent leather pixie topped, kitten heeled boots, snatch up a
cigarette, and matches, and stomp up and down the living room,
lip syncing this song. So slick did I become, I often performed
it for visitors, and relatives, who were so impressed that they
always gave me money. This quite often mounted up to a considerable
sum, with which my mother and I would invest in more boots: after
all, they were my equipment!!! No amplifiers, drum kits, or guitars
for me!! Boots, boots, and more boots. Then, this night, I saw
her, I was speechless, she looked like a good girl, gone bad,
all teased up hair, sooty eyes, and boots, with, a seriously bad
attitude. Obviously, something sunk in. so, as you can gather,
this was a meeting that mattered. She was sweet, and what's more,
hip. She was not some old, unaware fossil. She knew what was going
on today, and the influence her song had had on many boot wearing
walkers. The Top Of The Pops party was full of pop stars: Gareth
g.g.g,g..Gates, Will Young, Gina G, and countless others. I almost
fell asleep.... then, I saw Nancy, and Nancy saw me! So, I had
to let you all know, how honored I was, to be asked to pose for
this photo, with a goddess.
Love, Pete.
