The VH1 Special
INTERVIEW SCREEN CAPTURES
1997 saw Dead Or Alive
make a series of appearances in both Europe and the U.S. Although sporadic, these live
shows thrilled the fans and reaffirmed DOA's position as one of this decade's hottest
dance bands.
In June, they performed at Gay Pride in Paris, where they were so well
recieved by the crowds that one proud English fan exclaimed to a nearby cameraman,
"We're from the same country, you know!!" The following month Pete, Steve, and
the band flew to America for the taping of the VH-1 specials 'Then and Now' and 'Dance,
Dance, Dance'. They also did a gig in the sweltering confines of the NYC nightclub The
Batcave. The following month they performed in various clubs on their home turf (Glasgow,
Renfrew Ferry) where the English fans proved no less enthusiastic than their American
cousins.
In October, Dead Or Alive went back to America to tape the RuPaul show
and perform at Twirl and Life, two New York nightspots. Reviews that have appeared on the
various DOA websites indicate that Pete was in fine form and the fans considered the shows
well worth the wait. Below are some stills from videotaped 1997 gigs and interviews.
If you weren't there in person for any of them, hopefully this section will catch you up
on what you missed and inspire you to catch DOA when they tentatively return to America.
